A New Chapter Through Adaptive Reuse - Surry Hills

By Addenbrooke

At the intersection of heritage and innovation, Addenbrooke is proud to share a significant milestone in the transformation of 60–66 Sophia Street, Surry Hills.

Originally two adjoining period buildings that formed part of Sydney’s historic rag trade era, the site is being carefully reimagined through a considered adaptive reuse—retaining the character and texture of the past while delivering a contemporary commercial asset designed for the future.

This project represents more than a refurbishment. It is the thoughtful amalgamation of two heritage structures into a cohesive, design-led workplace environment that reflects the evolving identity of Surry Hills as one of Sydney’s most dynamic creative precincts.

Construction Progress

With capital works now well advanced, the vision for Sophia Street is rapidly taking shape. The structure, form and materiality of the building are being brought to life with a high level of craftsmanship, staying true to the integrity of the original buildings while introducing a refined, modern edge.

Working alongside a highly capable project team, the focus has remained on delivering a workplace that feels authentic, layered and enduring—qualities increasingly sought after by today’s leading occupiers.

100% leased ahead of completion.

In a strong endorsement of both the asset and its location, Addenbrooke is pleased to confirm that the building is now completely leased prior to completion to a global tenant.

Securing full occupancy at this stage reflects the continued demand for high-quality, design-driven commercial space within Surry Hills, particularly assets that offer character, flexibility and a strong sense of place.

Sophia Street sits within one of Sydney’s most tightly held urban pockets—defined by its creative energy, walkability and rich architectural fabric. This project embraces that context, ensuring the building contributes meaningfully to the streetscape while offering a distinctive identity for its future occupants.

The result will be a workplace that balances heritage and contemporary design—honouring where it came from, while firmly positioned for what’s ahead.

As construction progresses toward completion, we look forward to unveiling the finished product in the coming months.

Addenbrooke would like to acknowledge the broader project team for their commitment and execution in bringing this vision to life, and our leasing partners for securing a best-in-class tenant outcome.
